penguin colonies in Cabo Vírgenes, Argentina. We will depart early from Punta Arenas and travel 260 km north, crossing the border at Monte Aymond. Along the way, we will stop at Laguna Azul, a beautiful inactive volcanic crater.

Important:

  • A minimum of 8 passengers is required to run the tour. Please check availability via WhatsApp.
  • A valid ID is required, either a passport or national ID card (note: some countries require a VISA to enter Argentina).

The pickup time is between 5:00 and 5:30 AM from your respective accommodations in Punta Arenas.

Requirements for Entry to Argentina

Requirements for Entry to Chile

All passengers entering Argentina–Chile must present a completed sworn declaration at the time of check-in: https://djsimple.sag.gob.cl/.

  • Valid ID (passport, DNI, or national ID card)
  • Chilean Passengers: Must ensure that their national ID card has no alterations in the chip area as shown in the provided image.
  • Foreign Passengers: At check-in, present your passport and PDI migration ticket: https://www.migraciones.gov.ar/accesible/indexdnm.php?visas.

Additional Notes:

  • Foreign nationals with a Chilean RUT: This must be permanent Chilean residency; otherwise, you must present your passport and use it to cross the border.
  • Chilean minors: If traveling with only one parent or without either parent, a printed notarial authorization and printed birth certificate are required.
  • All Chilean minors must carry a printed birth certificate.
  • Verify visa requirements: Some countries may require a visa to enter Argentina.
  • Chinese nationals must have the IDE/AVE VISA printed. Without this document, the reservation will not be accepted.
  • Chilean nationals must provide their full name with both last names, as required at the border.
Itinerary

Full DayPenguins in Cabo Virgenes, Argentina

05:00 AM – Pickup in Punta Arenas
Departure from your accommodation in Punta Arenas. We head toward the Monte Aymond border crossing, entering Argentina.

07:30 AM – Stop at Monte Aymond and snack
Brief stop to enjoy coffee and a snack before continuing to Laguna Azul.

08:30 AM – Visit to Laguna Azul
Stop at Laguna Azul, a beautiful inactive volcanic crater, to enjoy the scenery and take photos.

10:30 AM – Arrival in Río Gallegos
Panoramic tour of Río Gallegos, followed by a typical lunch at a local restaurant.

12:30 PM – Departure to Cabo Vírgenes
After lunch, we continue the journey to Cabo Vírgenes penguin colony, approximately a 2.5-hour drive on a gravel road.

03:00 PM – Arrival at Cabo Vírgenes Penguin Colony
Visit to the Magellanic penguin colony, where you can observe around 250,000 penguins in their natural habitat. Free time to explore the park and enjoy the nature.

04:30 PM – Return to Río Gallegos
We leave the penguin colony and begin the return trip, with a brief stop to enjoy Argentine pastries and coffee.

07:00 PM – Border crossing back into Chile
We cross the Monte Aymond border again, heading back to Punta Arenas.

10:00 PM – Arrival in Punta Arenas
Drop-off at your respective accommodations in Punta Arenas.

10:30 PM – End of the tour
