Itinerary

Half DayFort Bulnes Tour

The Bulnes Fort tour starts around 10:00 a.m. Ee pick you up at you place of lodging and travel for about 60 km. to the south of Punta Arenas.

The road is paved and all along the way you are bordering the Strait of Magellan, allowing you to observe a varied marine fauna among which we can find seagulls, caiquenes, bandurrias, cormorants, etc.

The trip takes approximately 1 hour, where our first destination is the landmark that marks the Geographic Center of Chile (from the northern tip of Chile to the southernmost point of the Antarctica), where you can take pictures, after that brief stop we will continue towards Bulnes Fort only one kilometer away.

During the tour, the fauna and flora are varied. There are terrestrial birds such as the carancho, a species of small eagle, that is distinguished by its large red chest, the thrush, a bird that lives in almost all Chilean territory. The flora has a great variety of species as well: lenga, ñirre, coigüe, romerillo, wild daisy, ciruelillo, chilco, cinnamon, willows, pines and cypresses.

After an hour of travel inside the fort, we’ll begin the return, but not without visiting another historical place, in the area of Buena Bay (Mansa), which is located a kilometer and a half from the Bulnes Fort. Here we’ll visit the City of King Don Felipe, founded in 1584 by Don Pedro Sarmiento and later renamed Puerto del Hambre (Port of Hunger). An infamous name that tells how the more than 300 settlers, who attempted to inhabit that area died of starvation.

You will be able to take photos, and learn the full story of this place. The tour ends at approximately at 2:00 p.m. with the return to the city of Punta Arenas.
