Four days to leave nothing out: the Paine massif by vehicle, the hike to the Base of the Towers, the face of Grey Glacier and the Última Esperanza fjords. It is the complete Puerto Natales stay, without moving your bags once.

Why these days belong together

The Full Day covers by vehicle what you could not reach on foot in a week: Lake Sarmiento, Laguna Amarga, the Cuernos del Paine seen from Nordenskjöld, Salto Grande, the iceberg beach on Grey Lake and the Milodon Cave. It is the day that gives you the scale of the park.

The trek to the Base of the Towers is what no vehicle can give you: 22 kilometres and around nine hours up to the viewpoint you have seen in every photograph. It is demanding — medium-high difficulty — and that is why it goes on day two, once you know the park and know what you are climbing to see.

The Grey Lake navigation is the only way to stand in front of the glacier. You sail among icebergs up to the ice wall, and from the water the size of the Grey makes a different kind of sense.

And the fourth day leaves the park behind: the Última Esperanza fjords up to the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers, with the walk through Magellanic forest to the face of the Serrano. It is the contrast that closes the trip.

All four days run from the same base in Puerto Natales. You never move your bags.

Our first point of interest, seen from the boat, is the Bories Cold Storage Plant National Historic Monument, founded in 1913 by the Sociedad Explotadora de Tierra del Fuego, which for more than 60 years was the most important slaughterhouse in the area. Its masonry buildings, in post-Victorian English industrial style, stand out. Another landmark is Estancia La Península, which can only be reached by sea.

  • 11:30 hrs. We disembark at Puerto Toro to begin a guided walk along the shore of the Témpanos lagoon, through a native forest of coigües, ñirres and ciruelillos, towards the Serrano Glacier. Here we enjoy the vegetation and the contrast between the sky and the sea ice, with the imposing Serrano Glacier in front of us.
  • 12:30 hrs. Back from the walk we board again and enjoy a well-earned aperitif with glacier ice (whisky or orange juice).
  • 14:00 hrs. After witnessing a unique, wild and untouched landscape, we head for Estancia Perales — not before passing a family of sea lions on the way. At the estancia we enjoy a Patagonian lunch, or a vegetarian alternative if you prefer (see the FAQ).
