Itinerary

Day tourSan Isidro lighthouse trek

We start our tour at 8am, picking up passengers at their respective places of accommodation in Punta Arenas, and where we will head towards the San Isidro Lighthouse, located 70 km south of Punta Arenas, at the southern end of the Brunswick Peninsula. .

The main access road corresponds to Route 9 South, where we will go in the minivan bordering the Strait of Magellan, and where we will pass through the Fuerte Bulnes sector until we reach the San Juan sector, where the road ends.

From this point, we will have to do a trekking of around 4 km to reach the San Isidro lighthouse. The walk to the lighthouse lasts about two hours one way, and another two hours back and, in general, it is of low difficulty, where practically the entire journey is along the beach, halfway through the trekking, we will go into the forest to cross a river which features a bridge made of logs

The trekking, in addition to being simple, is of an impressive beauty: the lush and almost impenetrable virgin coigüe forest that we skirt from beginning to end, the imposing Mount Tarn that guards the entire bay and the calm but dangerous waters of the Strait of Magellan. They make this hike something like no other. In addition, in the summer months and with a little luck, it is possible to see dolphins and whales calmly prowling through the Strait of Magellan.

After two hours of walking, the first thing we see is a large contemporary-looking house. It is the Hostería San Isidro, which only works during the summer of the southern hemisphere. From here, the task is almost done, and it is enough to walk another 5 minutes to reach the lighthouse itself, which stands on a hill that juts out into the sea.

The panoramic view you have is something priceless: endless forests inland, the majesty of the strait and its unpredictable waters, Dawson Island, in the background the snowy peaks of the Darwin mountain range and a solitary albatross defying the wind and waves as only they know how to do it, were the prizes for the two-hour walk along one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.

Once we can take photos and videos, and tour the place, we will resume our trip back to Punta Arenas at around 3:30pm.
