Best time to visit Patagonia

Mejor epoca para viajar a la Patagonia

If you do not know Patagonia, and you want to come, you will find amazing landscapes, where you will find impenetrable forests, and endless steppes, a wonderful place at the end of the world.

If you already saw our gallery of photos and videos, and you wanted to come, the best time is in the summer on the  southern hemisphere  (from the end of November to the beginning of March), and yes, you will find many tourists, but it will look like a desert if you compare with visiting Paris or New York.

The climate in Patagonia is characterized by strong winds, and especially in the spring and summer, the average temperature is 11 ° C, particularly in Tierra del Fuego and Torres del Paine National Park, south of Patagonia, but If you go to Bariloche, Argentina, you can have a beautiful summer weather with a pleasant 22 ° C. The advantage of going in summer, is that the trails are more accessible. There are tours every day for the main tourist destinations of Patagonia, unlike in winter, where security issues are not carried out every day and the trails are closed due to weather conditions.

If you want to go hiking to Torres del Paine, or visit a national park, t is not recommended to go between the months of June and August,, during the winter in the southern hemisphere. Many of the main attractions are closed or inaccessible, and the weather is quite rough. However, places like Ushuahia offer its visitors, spectacular views from ski center, or if you want to go to Punta Arenas, do not forget to go to the Winter Carnival, a beautiful parade of allegorical cars and murgas, which lasts two days and generally the closing, is with a beautiful fireworks show. If you like the extreme, and you are prepared, south of Tierra del Fuego you can travel the Darwin mountain range,  it is only for people who are ready, since it requires mountain preparation, usually goes away in this epoch since the winds stop.

Finally I leave a sample video where you can see the strength of the wind in Patagonia, this does not mean that it is always like this, this changes from one sector to another.

More on the climate in Patagonia

The only predictable thing about the climate in Patagonia is that it is unpredictable – wind gusts can appear quickly and weather patterns also tend to change rapidly, so you should always be prepared with adequate coats for wind and cold.

No matter when you want to come, layers of clothing and a good windbreak are essential for a pleasant experience in Patagonia.
